Solitary Sandpiper
Tringa solitaria
Synopsis:
A pair was actively defending an apparent territory in the
northern Cascades (Olallie Meadow) during at least one year of
the atlas project, but breeding was not confirmed there (see Oregon Birds
22:40-41). They were not found at a location (Gold
Lake Bog in Lane County) where historically they bred in the 1980's.
Habitat Associations:
Wet Montane Meadow (2910 acres)
Relative Detectability:
Fairly easy to spot, but likely breeding locations are
very remote.
Challenge:
Survey other marshy lakes and ponds in the Cascades and Blue
Mountains for this species.
